54 Farmer Groups in North Jakarta Get Guidance

The North Jakarta Maritime, Agricultural and Food Security Sub-agency (KPKP) has succeeded in guiding 54 farmer groups (Poktan) spread across six sub-districts in 2023

There are currently a total of 54 active groups

North Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency Head, Unang Rustanto said those 54 farmer groups are at the forefront of implementing agricultural development, maintaining food security, and improving the economy.

"There are currently a total of 54 active groups. Hopefully, this year, the number of active community groups in North Jakarta will increase," he expressed, Tuesday (1/30).

He explained they consisted of groups developing food crops, horticulture, and agricultural processing. Farmers who are members of this Poktan certainly get many facilities and subsidized assistance from the government, such as providing cheap or free seeds and plant fertilizer.

"They also receive guidance, training, assistance, and marketing of agricultural products," he explained.

According to him, they are part of the Jakarta KPKP Agency program in the 2018 agricultural grand design which is targeted for completion in 2030.

Then the target that must be achieved is that around 30 percent of green open space will be planted with horticultural plants, namely ornamental and productive plants.

"Farming in Jakarta is very easy, nowadays isn't only based on land, but also space. So, no more reason for residents to do urban farming activities," he explained.

Poktan Nusa Indah Chairman, Zulfahmi admitted that he had formed a farmer group in 2020 using land on Jalan Bhakti VI, RT 05/06, Cilincing Urban Village, Cilincing Sub-district covering an area of approximately 200 hectares.

"This Poktan was formed during the pandemic. Currently, we have more than 20 members who are residents," he explained.

By being under the guidance of the North Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency, there are many benefits to be gained, starting from training in good and correct farming, the use of hydroponic techniques, to how to deal with plant pests.

"We plant various types of plants ranging from vegetables, fruit, and family medicinal plants. We're also focusing on chili cultivation. Thank you to the KPKP Sub-agency for continuing to provide counseling and guidance," he stated.
